No7 has eyeshadow pallettes in colours with three tones, one base tone, one highlight and one shadow. You put the base colour on your eyelid, put the darker colour on the end towards your ears and the highlight at the end closest to your nose.

eye shadow should compliment your eye color. that means it should be the opposite of the color you want to bring out of your eyes.
I have hazel eyes so i use purples and shades of red to bring out the green. i could also use blues to bring out the brown if i wanted. blue eyes should use shades of brown
